Conclusion of Questionnaire and Interviews:
The results received from the questionnaires and interviews show that the most popular genre to be R’n’B followed shortly by pop and then indie. This tells us that I our decision making we should consider using R’n’B or pop since it is the most appealing to our target audience.
When looking at the results received, it is obvious that people enjoy music videos that portray emotion and is relatable to them. The preferred type of music videos is when the artist has good vocals and portrays the song in a suitable way that matches the beat and emotions of the song. It seems that it is more liked when an artist pushes the boundaries and creates a different, unique music video that is fits with the beat and tempo of the song.
From the results it is obvious that our target audience prefer narrative based videos that have a story-line to the music video, this makes it more interesting as it feels like a movie and is easier to sit and watch without getting boring. Also out of the ten people asked six said that they don’t mind what gender the artist is and it just depends on how the song and lyrics are. Most people watch music videos daily or weekly, but they only watch the video if they like the song not otherwise.
From the interview it seems that people prefer having the artist in the music video. It also seems that Lady Gaga and Katy Perry seem to be the most influential and liked artists because they are creative and aren’t afraid to be different. From these results it shows us that we may want to watch a few of their videos so that we can get some ideas on what to do for our music video. One interviewee said that they do not like songs which are constantly repetitive and ones that only include one entertaining aspect such as only dancing or only singing on a guitar in one position. It seems that in a music video using more than one setting seems to be the most interesting. The results from the interview in question ten, it tells us that both the music and lyrics are very important to the success of a song. It does not only depend on one or the other. If they do not match each other than the song is not likely to be successful.
Overall, it seems that in order to make a music video that will be enjoyed and liked by our target audience; we need to consider the answers received. It seems that the most controversial music videos are liked more, and being unique and different should be a main priority. Therefore the conclusions drawn out from the questionnaire and interview results are going to be beneficial if we want our end product to be successful with our targeted audience.
